Pair of First-Place Finishes in Indiana

Giavonna Meeks wins hammer throw, Veronica Fraley wins discus

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — On Friday, Vanderbilt women’s track and field and members of the men’s cross country team competed in the Indiana Invitational and Virginia Challenge.

At the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana, Giavonna Meeks won the hammer throw competition with a 60.77-meter toss, resetting the school record for the third meet in a row.

Veronica Fraley won the Indiana Invitational’s shot put with a personal-best throw of 17.33 meters, which is the No. 2 mark in program history. Sarah Marvin finished first among freshmen and fourth overall in the shot put with a 15.50-meter throw.

In the invite division of the 1,500 meters, Emma Curry (4:26.68), Julia Rosenberg (4:27.09) and Cameron Fawcett (4:28.21) recorded personal bests at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is the second meet in a row that these three Commodores have improved their best times.

Saturday’s events will begin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at 1:45 p.m. when Jada Sims and Madison Murray compete in the high jump at the LSU Alumni Gold meet. Vanderbilt’s throwers will compete in the Indiana Invitational’s discus competition at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday.
