BIRMINGHAM, England — Divine Oladipo, a recent graduate of Vanderbilt track and field, competed in the finals of the shot put at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Wednesday and finished fifth overall in the event.
Oladipo’s opening throw was her best of the day, landing at 17.28 meters—good enough to cement her fifth-place ranking. She had reached the finals after a successful showing in Tuesday’s qualifying round for group B. Oladipo’s 17.09 meter mark secured her third overall at the end of qualifying.
Oladipo, 23, was the youngest member of Team England to qualify and compete in the finals of the shot put. She is one of the 93 athletes to represent Team England at the 2022 games.
Since completing her two-time All-American season with the Commodores, Oladipo has had a successful journey thus far. En route to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, she competed at the 2022 UK Athletics Championships in June, placing third in the shot put with a mark of 17.20 meters.
