Offensive Lineman Hamilton Holliday Selected to The Sporting News’ All-SEC Freshmen Squad

Vanderbilt offensive lineman Hamilton Holliday was named Tuesday to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshmen Team by The Sporting News, one of the nation’s most respected weekly sports publications.

Holliday, a native of Marietta, Ga., was one of five offensive linemen named to the squad, becoming the first Commodore freshman recognized by The Sporting News since four Vanderbilt players were picked in 2002.

A separate All-SEC team, selected by the league’s 12 head coaches, is expected to be released later this week by the conference office.

Holliday, a graduate of Walton High School in Marietta, saw action in eight games for the Commodores as a true freshman, playing both center and right guard.  He ended the season by starting at guard versus Kentucky and Tennessee.

Holliday was one of seven true freshman to see action for the Commodores last season.  Others including defensive end David Carter of Waynesboro, Pa., defensive end Lamar Divens of Fayetteville, Tenn., defensive tackle Gabe Hall of Virginia Beach, Va., defensive end Theo Horrocks of Fayetteville, Tenn., running back Cassen Jackson-Garrison of Knoxville, Tenn., and tailback Jeff Jennings of Dandridge, Tenn.

Holliday, Carter, Divens, Horrocks and Jennings earned starts during the season.  Jennings finished the season second behind quarterback Jay Cutler with five rushing touchdowns.
