No. 3 VU Women’s Tennis Plays Host To No. 21 Kentucky In Regular Season Finale 4/9/2004 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The third-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will play host to 21st-ranked Kentucky in the regular season finale for both schools at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center on Saturday, April 11, at Noon CT. A win Saturday would give the Commodores a 9-1 Southeastern Conference record and ensure them a second-place finish in the league, matching the best mark in school history. The Commodores (19-2 overall) also can secure their seventh straight 20-win season, and the eighth in Head Coach Geoff Macdonald’s 10-year tenure. Vanderbilt is led by 14th-ranked Audra Falk, who has won her last seven singles matches for the Commodores. The Dores also boast the nation’s third-ranked doubles pairing of seniors Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos. Schmandt and Tsoubanos have combined to post a 17-3 dual-match record at No. 1 doubles. They will be competing in their last regular season match at the Currey Tennis Center. Those two seniors, as well as the rest of the Commodores and the remaining 11 teams in the SEC, will take part in the 2004 SEC Women’s Tennis Championships, April 15-18, at the Currey Tennis Center. The event features three of the nation’s top five teams, and seven of the ITA’s top 30. First round action will begin on Thursday, April 15, at 8 a.m. |
