First Round ResultsDUBLIN, Ohio – On a cold and windy day at Muirfield Village in Columbus, Ohio, the Commodores shot a team total of 311 at the world-renown facility and are in a tie for seventh heading into the final 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 because of frost on Monday morning that delayed play until 11 a.m. Eastern time.
Sophomore Hunter Stewart led the Vanderbilt effort on Monday, carding a two-over par, 74, and is in a tie for seventh individually. Stewart won medalist honors in his last time out at the Commodores’ own Mason Rudolph Championship.
“It was a cold and windy day on a great, championship golf course, and I’m proud of the way Hunter Stewart played,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “It is one of the harder golf courses on the PGA Tour, and it showed today.
“I’m not displeased with our performance, but I don’t think we were resilient enough out there today, and that’s what my message is going to be to them. But, I’m excited for tomorrow and the opportunity to get back out there to watch these guys play.”
Vanderbilt’s other counting scorers on Monday were all seven-over par, 79’s. Junior Charlie Ewing, sophomore Jordan Janico, and freshman Zack Jaworski each carded the 79’s, while freshman Carson Jacobs shot an 82 in his round at Muirfield.
Oklahoma State leads the team leaderboard, finishing the day at 295, seven strokes better than second-place Kentucky and BYU. UCF’s Greg Eason shot a two-under par 70, and leads Ian Davis of Oklahoma State by one stroke. There were only three players to play today’s round at even par or better.
The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday morning. Tee times are slated for 8:30 a.m., but more frost is expected.
