NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vandy’s postseason run begins in earnest Monday when the Commodores tee off at the Westfield Regional in Indiana.
Vandy is one of 12 squads competing at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Indiana, in hopes of advancing to the NCAA Championships on May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“We just talked today about how special it is to be playing golf this time of year,” Vandy head coach Greg Allen said. “There are 192 schools whose season ended last Wednesday when the selections were made. Although this is our expectation every year, we certainly don’t want to take it for granted.”
The Commodores are coming off a quarterfinals appearance at the SEC Championships on April 15. They finished fourth in stroke play before falling to Mississippi State in match play.
Vandy’s 2022-23 season has included wins at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate (Oct. 9) and FAU Paradise Invitational (Feb. 7) as well as six top-five finishes.
Looking to win a regional title for the second season in a row, Vanderbilt will have Celina Sattelkau, Lynn Lim, Tillie Claggett, Virginie Ding and Tess Davenport in the lineup. Jayna Choi will be on hand as a possible substitute as well.
“One reason this time of year is really great for our young ladies is because they are finished with school for the year and they can just focus on golf,” Allen said. “We are excited about playing in the Westfield Regional and I like the way we have prepared for this particular golf course in a part of the country that is a bit unfamiliar to us.
“I feel like we are clicking on all cylinders and my goal is that we do what we’ve done all year. And that’s to play hard from start to finish, have a great attitude and have fun.”
Vandy, ranked 17th nationally by Golfstat and the No. 3 seed in the Westfield Regional, is scheduled to go off at 7 a.m. CT Monday to start the three-day, 54-hole tournament used to decide who moves on to the next round. The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team will advance.
The Westfield Regional field also includes Mississippi State, Oregon, Iowa Stat, Virginia, Tulsa, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon State, Xavier, Lipscomb and Morehead State along with Isabella McCauley and Luisamariana Mesones (Minnesota), Carmen Griffiths (Louisville), Sofia Torres (Colorado State), Lauren Beaudreau (Notre Dame) and Sabrina Coffman (Cleveland State) competing as individuals.
Vandy will be playing alongside Mississippi State and Oregon for the first round. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
