NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men's tennis brings its hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships to Tallahassee as Florida State is set to host the ITA South Sectional Championships Nov. 5-8.
The event marks the last qualifying opportunity of the fall season for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which takes place Nov. 17-22. The sectional tournament will have 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams competing. Six singles players will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, including all four semifinalists and the two quarterfinalist playoff winners. For doubles, the two finalist pairs and the third-place team will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
The Commodores look to return to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships after junior Pablo Martinez Gomez earned a qualifying berth in singles last season. Seniors Danil Panarin and Hugo Coquelin are making the trek to Tallahassee for the black and gold; both will be competing in the singles bracket while playing together for the first time as a doubles pair this fall.
Coquelin, the No. 7 singles seed in the tournament, and Panarin both take the court at 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET), with the former facing Georgia's Andrew Delgado and the latter taking on Gabor Hornung of Florida State. The two begin doubles play at 1:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. ET) against Georgia Tech's Richard Biagiotti and Gianluca Carlini.
