NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 24/21 Vanderbilt delivered another strong defensive showing to sink visiting Wake Forest 74-51 on Thursday at Memorial Gymnasium.
Tyler Tanner generated his second career double-double, leading the black and gold with 17 points while securing a career-high 10 rebounds. It is the first double-double by a Commodore since Devin McGlockton's 17-point, 10-rebound output against Georgia on Feb. 25.
After Wake Forest (1-1) moved ahead 6-5 in the opening minutes, Vanderbilt (2-0) did not trail for the remainder of the contest. The Dores held a 39-27 lead at the halftime break. The Deamon Deacons trimmed the score to 46-40 with 12:07 left in the game, but an eight-point run after three makes from Anthony Brown Jr. built the Vanderbilt advantage back up to double digits. Brown Jr. finished with 14 points, shooting 4-of-9 from behind the arc.
Chandler Bing added a career-high 13 points; in total, four Dores ended with double-digit scoring. It was Vandy's best performance on the glass since 2023 as the Dores collected 48 rebounds as a team, 17 of which came on the offensive end. 30 of the Dores' 71 total points came in the paint.
At 51 points scored, Wake Forest was held to its lowest scoring total since a 44-point performance against Texas A&M Dec. 3, 2024. It is the second straight loss to Vandy in back-to-back seasons; the Dores are now 5-0 against the ACC in the Mark Byington era.
Kevair Kennedy led all scorers with 20 points for the Demon Deacons.
Vanderbilt returns to Memorial on Nov. 10 for an in-state matchup with Memphis (1-0) at 6:15 p.m.
