BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt men’s golf senior Carlos Astiazaran was named SEC Golfer of the Week after he claimed his first victory with the Commodores at the Cullan Brown Collegiate earlier in the week.
Astiazaran shares SEC Golfer of the Week honors with Tennessee’s Christian Pardue and Texas A&M’s Wheaton Ennis. The Vanderbilt senior tied for first at the Cullan Brown Collegiate with Pardue to claim his first medalist honors at Vandy and the third of his career. It is his first career SEC Golfer of the Week honor, and he is the first Vanderbilt golfer this season to win an SEC weekly award.
The Tucson, Arizona, native posted his lowest 54-hole score with Vanderbilt en route to his victory in the Bluegrass State, as Astiazaran carded 9-under 204. His 9-under performance over three rounds at the Lexington Country Club is also the lowest 54-hole score vs. par posted by a Commodore this season. The senior held scores of 69-66-69, while his 5-under 66 in Round 2 marks his best single-round performance as a Commodore.
Astiazaran is the 28th Vanderbilt golfer to win a tournament since 1997, while he is the 18th Commodore to earn medalist honors under Limbaugh. He is the first Dore to win an event this season, and the first since Will Hartman captured first place at the 2026 NCAA Athens Regional back in May.
The No. 10-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team returns to action Oct. 18-20 to compete in The Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf.
