WEST POINT, Miss. – A tough opening day at The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club ended with Vanderbilt women’s golf in ninth at 9-over-par on the team leaderboard.
Angelina Tolentino led the Commodores with an even-par 72 in her first trip around Old Waverly. Tolentino carded a pair of birdies in the round and is tied for 14th individually. Sara Im followed at 2-over after starting strong with a 1-under 35 going out. Ava Merrill came home at 3-over with a 75 while Claire Henson rounded out the Dores’ counting scores at 4-over.
“I thought Angelina and Sara did a nice job of carrying us early on and I’m proud of how AT finished,” head coach Greg Allen said. “Ava made a move midway through her round to fight back in there only to make a couple late bogeys to end her momentum but, overall, it just wasn’t a very good team performance today. Sixes are never good on a scorecard, and we had too many today. We know that and we know we must play better tomorrow.”
Olivia Wood carded an 80 and Elizabeth Rudisill an 85 in the first round.
Ole Miss leads through 18 holes at 7-under-par. Vanderbilt sits three strokes back of TCU and Virginia Tech and six strokes off Florida. The Commodores will tee off the second round at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning alongside TCU and Virginia Tech.
