MASON, Ohio — Of the 16 players remaining in singles, four are Commodores as the Vanderbilt women's tennis team pieced together another multi-win day at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships from the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
The black and gold started off play in doubles, sending two pairs into the round of 16. No. 29 ranked senior Valeria Ray and junior Sophia Webster made their tournament debut after receiving a first-round bye, taking down Cincinnati's Elizabeth Fauchet and Sara Watanabe 8-5. Sophomores Erin Pearce and Mia Yamakita extended their doubles streak with an 8-4 victory over Katie Oliver and Elena Thiel of Austin Peay.
Webster quickly secured a spot in the singles round of 16 soon after, downing Adriana Moreno from Northern Kentucky 6-1, 6-0. Pearce followed suite, 6-3, 6-2, against Louisville's Germany Davis. Yamakita secured her spot in the next round behind a 6-0, 7-5 takedown of Alessandra Caceres from East Tennessee State. No. 14 Valeria Ray made it four singles wins on the day for Vandy, sinking Tennessee's Audrey Aulia 6-1, 7-5.
Another round of doubles closed out the day and the Commodores continued the momentum. No. 29 Ray and Webster punched their quarterfinal ticket with an 8-2 victory over Caceres and Audelie Lesauvage. Pearce and Yamakita also made their way into the quarterfinal round, defeating Indiana's Nicole Sifuentes and Ameia Sorey 8-3.
