COLUMBUS, Ohio – Vanderbilt men’s golf alumnus Cole Sherwood earned his PGA TOUR card this past weekend as he became the eighth Commodore to earn his PGA TOUR card.
Sherwood, who was a six-time All-American for the Dores from 2020-2024, earned his PGA TOUR card by making the cut at last week’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio, the second stop on the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. He is mathematically locked into one of the final top 20 spots on the Korn Ferry Tour points list, currently ranked No. 6, ahead of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals’ third event on Oct. 1-4 at the Compliance Solution Championship in Owasso, Oklahoma.
Sherwood becomes the eighth Commodore to earn a PGA TOUR card. He is the fifth Vandy alum to achieve the feat in the last six years.
The 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season has been a breakout of sorts for Sherwood. The two-time SEC Champion has been a consistent fixture at the top of the leaderboards this season. Sherwood collected his first career victory on the Korn Ferry Tour in May, winning the Colonial Life Charity Classic in Columbia, South Carolina, with a four-round score of 16-under. He has collected five top-10 finishes this season and made the cut in 18 of the 21 events.
After a record-setting career with the Commodores, Sherwood earned his Korn Ferry Tour card via PGA TOUR University at the conclusion of his senior year in 2023-24. He has been a mainstay on the Korn Ferry Tour since turning pro, competing in 55 events over the last two and a half seasons. Sherwood has posted eight career top-10 finishes and placed in the top-25 a total of 17 times over his Korn Ferry Tour career. Sherwood has played in two PGA TOUR events, both coming in 2024 at the John Deere Classic and Procore Championship.
The Austin, Texas, native graduated from Vanderbilt in May 2024. Sherwood holds a share of Vanderbilt’s 18-hole score and 54-hole score records and helped the Commodores win back-to-back SEC Championships in 2020-21 and 2021-22. His three individual titles are tied for fourth in program history. Sherwood also excelled in the classroom, earning SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year and becoming the first golfer in program history to receive Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Communicators.
Sherwood recently played in the first stop on the Korn Ferry Tour Finals at Vanderbilt Legends Club back on Sept. 10-13. He was one of three Dores on Tour to speak with VUCommodores.com prior to the tournament.
