MEDINAH, Ill. – Vanderbilt men’s golf alumnus Brandt Snedeker is set to captain the U.S. Team at the 16th Presidents Cup, one of golf’s premier international events. Play takes place Thursday-Sunday at Medinah Country Club and will be broadcast on NBC, Golf Channel and Peacock.
Snedeker, one of the most decorated Commodores in program history, was named captain for the United States by his peers on the PGA TOUR in April of 2025. The 20-year PGA TOUR veteran leads the 12-man U.S. Team against the International Team in the four-day event at Medinah Country Club, near Chicago.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be named U.S. Team captain for the 2026 Presidents Cup by my peers, and I’m looking forward to leading our guys into Medinah for what will certainly be an amazing week of golf,” said Snedeker upon his selection as captain. “Representing my country in team competition has been a highlight of my PGA TOUR career, and I will lean on those experiences to ensure we are prepared and ready to compete against what I know will be a unified and determined International Team.”
Snedeker’s assignment as captain at the 16th Presidents Cup marks his latest mentorship role for his home country. The 2003 Vanderbilt graduate was a captain’s assistant for the U.S. Team at the 15th Presidents Cup in 2024. More recently, Snedeker was a vice captain at the Ryder Cup in 2025.
The 12 golfers Snedeker will lead against the International Team this week are among some of the biggest names in the golf world. Competing for the U.S. Team will be Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns, Jackson Koivun, Russell Henley, Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa and Jacob Bridgeman.
A veteran of the Presidents Cup, this year marks the third time Snedeker has either played or been a captain in the event. He made his debut on the team in 2013, winning two matches to help the U.S. secure victory. In 2024, as a captain’s assistant, he once again guided the U.S. Team to a win.
The Nashville, Tennessee, native is still, to date, the only Vanderbilt alumnus to play in the Presidents Cup. However, Snedeker won’t be the only Commodore at the 16th Presidents Cup, as Hunter Stewart is the U.S. Team’s data analytics expert and strategy consultant.
