Commodores complete nonconference play with a 9-0 start

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt volleyball squad completes the nonconference portion of the season undefeated after sweeping Lipscomb (25-20, 25-16, 25-15) in three sets. The win pushed the Commodores to 9-0 while Lipscomb fell to 5-3 on the year.

The Dores bested the Bisons in every stat category following the match, highlighted by the black and gold’s .325 hitting efficiency and eight blocks. Vandy’s eight aces were led by Maya Witherspoon’s four while Avery Scoggins and Samantha Wunsch each posted two.

Offensively, Reese Animashaun joined Wunsch in double digits with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Animashaun finished her second consecutive match hitting over .400, ending the night with an efficiency of .455. Avery Scoggins posted 27 assists to surpass the 2,700 career assists plateau.

Defensively, Hailee Mack posted 10 of the team’s 35 digs against the Bisons. Rachel Ogunleye stuffed a career-best two solo blocks, while earning six total rejections on the night. Ariel Chime added a career-best two blocks to the Commodores' eight-block night.

Vanderbilt stays in Nashville to open conference play against No. 4 Kentucky at Memorial Gymnasium Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. CT.
