NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball has signed Gabe Nesmith, who will reclassify into the class of 2026 and join the Commodores for the upcoming season.

Nesmith was a consensus top 30 prospect in the class of 2027 before his decision to reclassify. He was listed as a five-star in 247Sports’ composite rankings prior to his reclassification.

The cousin of former Vanderbilt standout Aaron Nesmith, Gabe has established himself as one of the most talented three-level scorers in prep basketball. While playing with the Nightrydas on Nike’s EYBL circuit, Nesmith averaged 16.4 points per game and 4.6 rebounds this summer. He also added 2.6 assists per game and 1.2 steals.

Nesmith helped the Nightrydas to a semifinal appearance at Peach Jam earlier in July, knocking down the game-winning three in the quarterfinals. He finished the quarterfinals with 16 points and six rebounds, one of three games with 16 or more points for Nesmith at Peach Jam.

His best performance came in a 22-point, five-board, two-assist performance in the victory over Vegas Elite. Nesmith went 9-of-11 from the field and 2-of-2 beyond the arc to lead the Nightrydas.

The Florida native spent last season at the prestigious Overtime Elite program in Atlanta. He spent his sophomore year at Prolific Prep after beginning his high school career at Montverde Academy. He was part of the 2023-24 Montverde team which won Chipotle Nationals.

Nesmith becomes the highest-rated Vanderbilt signee in the Mark Byington era and the top recruit for the Commodores since Darius Garland. He also gives the Commodores a fourth top-100 player in the freshman class.
