NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Tuesday, Scott Limbaugh, the Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Head Coach, announced the promotion of Austin Cody to associate head coach of the Commodore men’s golf team.

Cody, who enters his fourth season with the Vandy men’s golf team ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, has played an integral role in Vanderbilt’s success on and off the course in his three seasons as an assistant coach. During his time in Music City, Cody has helped the Commodores sign the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in both 2025 and 2026. The Dores have won 11 team titles, while seven Commodores have earned All-American honors during Cody’s tenure.

"I am incredibly honored by this promotion,” said Cody. “Being named associate head coach is a testament to the culture Coach Limbaugh has built here, and I appreciate his trust in me. I look forward to continuing to push our student-athletes to reach their full potential, both on the course and in the classroom."

The Dores have advanced to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship in each season since Cody’s arrival, while winning two NCAA Regional events in his first three seasons. In his first campaign with Vanderbilt, the Commodores qualified for match play at the 2024 NCAA Championships after posting a second-place finish in stroke play. The Dores then qualified again for match play in 2026 with a third-place finish in stroke play.

“Austin is most deserving of this promotion, said Limbaugh. “He has made an incredible impact on our program in every aspect over the last three seasons. He is passionate about coaching and spends a great deal of time investing in our players. He’s done a tremendous job as our recruiting coordinator, and our players continue to improve on the course while pursuing excellence in the classroom as well.”

During his time at Vandy, Cody has played a key role in the growth of several freshmen.

This past season, Cody was instrumental in developing the No. 1-ranked freshman class of Will Hartman, Michael Riebe and Jon Ed Steed. Steed was named to the All-America freshman team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), while also earning All-SEC freshman team and GCAA All-Southeast Region honors. Hartman was a co-medalist at the NCAA Athens Regional and tied for fourth at the NCAA Championship to earn All-America honors. Riebe collected a pair of top-three finishes and posted his first collegiate victory at the Watersound Invitational. In all, Vanderbilt won four team titles in 2025-26 and had three golfers earn medalist honors.

Cody was key in the development of Ryan Downes during the 2024-25 season. Downes, then a freshman, tied the program record for lowest 18-hole total and score vs. par, as he carded 10-under 61 in Round 1 at the 2025 Mason Rudolph Championship. Vanderbilt had three golfers win four individual titles in Cody’s second season.

In his first campaign with the Commodores in 2023-24, Vanderbilt won seven team titles and advanced to the title match at the 2024 SEC Championship. The seven team wins are tied for the second-most in a single season in program history. Four Dores earned individual medalist honors during Cody’s first season, highlighted by William Moll’s victory at the 2024 NCAA West Lafayette Region, becoming the first Commodore to win an NCAA Regional.

Cody joined the Commodore program after serving as an assistant coach at Ole Miss from 2020-23, where he helped the Rebels to an NCAA Regional appearance each season. Before he arrived in Oxford, he was on the staff for three seasons at UAB, including serving as associate head coach in 2019-20.

He was a four-year letterwinner at Duke from 2010-14. He helped the Blue Devils advance to match play at the NCAA Championship during his freshman season, and he guided Duke to the ACC Championship as a junior.

Cody earned his sociology degree from Duke in 2014 while also minoring in markets and management studies.
