NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt lacrosse hits the road for the first time this season, visiting No. 3 Northwestern on Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m.; the game will be broadcasted on B1G+.

Last Outing

Six Dores scored in Monday’s 15-12 loss to Louisville, led by sophomore Nancy Halleron who matched a career-best five goals on seven attempts.

Louisville jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after the opening quarter, but the Dores scored three unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the second quarter led by Bri Gross’ back-to-back goals within 40 seconds to bring Vandy within two (6-4). UofL responded with three goals to push their lead with four minutes left in the half. Gross scored again for the Commodores as Vanderbilt trailed 9-5 at the break.

In the third, the Cardinals outscored the Commodores 5-1 in the period, however Vanderbilt warred back with 6-1 fourth quarter starting off with back-to-back goals from Halleron, to tally a team-high five goals in the contest. Freshman Logan Risenhoover scored her first career goals and Ellie Hilsabeck found the back of the net, bringing the Dores to within five at the six-minute mark.

Two more goals from Lila Huddles and Paige Finneran brought Vandy within three but Louisville held on to win 15-12.

The Wildcat Report

So far this season, Northwestern is 3-1 including back-to-back victories over ranked opponents, No. 14 Notre Dame and No. 3 Boston College. In their last outing, last Thursday, the Wildcats defeated Marquette in a 21-14 decision in Milwaukee. Izzy Scane of NU is tied with Camryn Callaghan of Cincinnati for the most goals across the country at 27.

Freshman Madison Taylor recently was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, for the third time this season. Against Marquette, Taylor posted two goals and pulled down eight draw controls. On the season, Taylor has tallied 12 goals and 24 draw controls, second in both categories for the Wildcats.

Series History

Vanderbilt and Northwestern last met in 2014, on a 15-9 difference in favor of the Wildcats.

All-time, the Dores trail 14-3 in the series that started with a 13-7 win in 2002. Vandy tallied three consecutive wins in straight years from 2002-04 but haven’t defeated Northwestern since.
