Commodore Notes
The Commodores went 3-2 on the week, splitting a pair of midweek contests before taking the series against No. 17 UCLA at Hawkins Field over the weekend. Vanderbilt bounced back from a one-run loss to Central Arkansas on Tuesday with a 13-1 win in seven innings against UAB on Wednesday. Vanderbilt’s pitching was dominant in the three-game series against UCLA. Carter Holton and Bryce Cunningham combined for a shutout Friday as Vanderbilt beat UCLA 6-0 behind a three-RBI game from Davis Diaz. The Dores fell 3-0 to UCLA on Saturday but took the series on Sunday with a 2-1 win. Sunday’s starting pitcher Devin Futrell threw five scoreless innings and Nick Maldonado recorded a three-inning save while striking out eight of the 11 batters he faced. Diaz delivered at the plate again Sunday with a two-run blast to open the scoring, his first home run on the season. Vandy’s starting pitchers threw 15.1 innings in the series vs. UCLA and struck out 18 while not allowing a run and limiting the Bruins to just five hits. Enrique Bradfield Jr. broke the Vanderbilt career stolen base record with his 97th stolen base in Sunday’s win.

Vanderbilt hosts Austin Peay on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+ before heading north to Minneapolis for the Cambria College Classic. The Commodores will face Nebraska on Friday, No. 18 Maryland on Saturday and Minnesota on Sunday. All three games will be on BTN+.
