Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt dropped its weekend series against Texas A&M, losing Games 1 and 3 around a Game 2 victory. The Commodores pushed a run across in the first inning of the series opener on Thursday, but that would be it as the Aggies took the game, 5-1. Vandy starting pitcher Chris McElvain threw 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out seven. Vanderbilt responded in a big way on Friday, taking down Texas A&M 11-1. The Dores plated two in the first and three in the second and never looked back. Seven different Commodores drove in at least one run and three hit a home run. Dominic Keegan was a double short of the cycle going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. The Commodores also got a solid start from Carter Holton (5-3). The freshman tossed five innings of shutout ball, struck out seven and worked around four hits and four walks. Spencer Jones and Keegan hit back-to-back home runs in the first and Enrique Bradfield Jr. added a solo shot in the second. The Aggies claimed the series with a 12-4 win on Saturday. Calvin Hewett launched a two-run homer in the loss.
