– Struck out nine batters on the night, which marked the most in his career in an SEC game
– The combined no-hitter marked the first for Vanderbilt since May 6, 2003, when four pitchers accomplished the feat at Western Kentucky
Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt won three of four games last week, including a combined no-hitter on Friday at Kentucky. Vanderbilt won its 29th consecutive home midweek game on Tuesday, shutting out Tennessee Tech, 7-0, at Hawkins Field. Starting pitcher Devin Futrell turned in another strong start for the Commodores to pick up his eighth win on the season. Futrell held Tennessee Tech scoreless over 6.0 innings, allowing just three hits and struck out six. Vanderbilt’s offense scored its seven runs on five hits. The team drew seven walks and reached base on a hit-by-pitch six times. Chris McElvain and Christian Little combined to no-hit Kentucky in the series-opener on Friday in Lexington. McElvain worked the first 7.0 innings. The junior right-hander struck out nine batters on the night to pick up his fifth win on the year. Little covered the final two frames to preserve the no-hit effort. Little registered four punchouts to close things out and help the Commodores secure the 10-0 win. The Wildcats evened the series with a 3-2 victory on Saturday, but the Commodores secured the series win on Sunday, defeating Kentucky 5-3 in the finale. Vanderbilt plated three runs in the first. Enrique Bradfield Jr. connected on the first pitch of the ballgame with a deep drive to left center field for a solo home run. Bryce Cunningham earned his second win on the season, while Thomas Schultz allowed just one hit across the final 2.2 frames to notch his sixth save on the year.
