NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball student-athlete Jordan Wright is one of 10 candidates to be named the 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars male Sports Scholar of the Year it was announced Monday.

The junior guard is one of 10 individuals across the country in consideration for the honor which will be revealed next month.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native was selected the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America prior to the start of postseason action. He is currently averaging 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, adding 63 assists and 50 steals while shooting 35.4 percent from three-point range and 80.5 percent at the foul line.

In addition to leading the Commodores in rebounding and ranking second on the team in scoring, assists and steals, Wright is among the top 20 in the conference in free-throw percentage, rebounds and steals per game while also standing sixth with seven double-doubles. The guard has scored 10 or more points on 24 occasions thus far this season including posting 27 against Kentucky in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament and 24 in a victory over Belmont in the opening round of the NIT.

In addition to their athletic ability, individuals named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars are students of color who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, are at least sophomores academically, and have been active on their campuses or in their communities.

Wright and the Dores continue play in the NIT when they face Xavier in the quarterfinals of the event at 8 p.m. CT Tuesday in Cincinnati.
