NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt duo of Tate Kolwyck and Carter Holton received SEC weekly honors, announced by the league office Monday.
Kolwyck was named SEC Player of the Week, while Holton was tabbed SEC Co-Freshman of the Week.
Kolwyck collected multi-hit outings in three of Vanderbilt’s four contests on the week to help the Commodores go a perfect 4-0. Four of his seven hits went for extra bases, two doubles and two home runs, as he slugged a team-high tying 1.000 on the week.
The senior infielder drove in the tying runs in the ninth inning against Michigan on Tuesday with an RBI double, before coming across to score the game-winning run on a passed ball.
Kolwyck continued his impressive play into the weekend with a strong performance in the SEC opening series against Missouri. He homered in the final two games of the three-game set against the Tigers.
Kolwyck hit the game-tying home run in seventh inning of Sunday’s series finale to help Vanderbilt secure the comeback victory against Missouri and clinch the sweep.
Holton notched his fourth quality start on the season with a dominant performance against Missouri on Saturday. He worked 7.0 shutout innings of one-hit baseball to pick up his team-leading fourth win on the year.
The freshman southpaw recorded 10 strikeouts on the afternoon, marking his second consecutive outing with double-digit punchouts. He held Missouri to just three hits across his seven innings of work in SEC debut, while extending his scoreless innings streak to 13.1 innings.
Holton helped the Vanderbilt pitching staff earn its fifth shutout on the season. The Savannah, Georgia, native currently leads the SEC in strikeouts with 45.
Kolwyck and Holton become the second and third Commodores to earn SEC weekly honors this year, joining Davis Diaz, who was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week on March 7.
