NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer student-athletes – Abi Brighton, Maddie Elwell, Madiya Harriott, Raegan Kelley and Ella Shamburger – were named to the SEC Soccer Preseason Watch List, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Brighton, a sophomore midfielder, started all 16 games last season. Posting three goals and two assists, the South Carolina native earned 2020 SEC All-Freshman Team accolades as well as a spot on the SEC All-Tournament Team.
The veteran Elwell enters her fifth season with the Commodores in 2021. The two-time All-SEC Second Team honoree finished last season with two goals and four assists. For her play during Vandy’s SEC Championship season, Elwell secured All-Southeast Region Second Team accolades.
Another fifth-year Dore, Harriott will be playing in her 70th career game in the season opener. The defender dished out two assists last season and was part of a backline that produced five shutouts.
Now a senior, Kelley is the leading scorer among Vandy’s returners – notching five goals a season ago. The Atlanta, Georgia, native stepped up when it mattered most, scoring three goals in the 2020 SEC Tournament. She has scored 11 goals through three seasons in Nashville.
Shamburger adds to her growing resume that includes three all-region selections and two All-SEC Second Team awards. The defender entering her senior season has started all 57 games in her Vanderbilt career.
The No. 18 Commodores, who are the defending SEC Tournament champions, open the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday versus Tennessee Tech at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
