Commodore Notes
After taking the midweek off to wrap up spring classes, Vanderbilt hit the road for their fourth conference road trip of the season. The Commodores traveled to Gainesville for their fifth ranked weekend series of the season, and third consecutive top-15 matchup. Vandy used a strong offensive effort to claim an 11-7 win over No. 14 Florida in Friday’s series opener. The Commodores jumped out to a 7-0 lead across the first few innings, while holding off a late offensive effort from the Gators to claim the win. Junior Kumar Rocker picked up the win in the matchup, becoming the first Division I pitcher this season to eclipse the 10-win mark on the mound. The Commodores dropped the second matchup of the weekend, as the Florida offense recorded four home runs en route to claiming an 11-8 win to even the series on Saturday evening. The Gators carried their offensive momentum into the early innings of Sunday’s series finale, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead during the first four innings of play. Vanderbilt chipped away at the lead across the middle frames, but could not complete the comeback as Florida claimed the series with a 5-3 victory over the Commodores. The loss marked Vanderbilt’s second series loss of the season and first series setback on the road. Entering the weekend, the Commodores had won their last six SEC series on the road, a streak that dated to May 2019. Vanderbilt has loss consecutive games for the first time this season.
