NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After her record-setting weekend Vanderbilt lacrosse senior Gabby Fornia earned American Athletic Conference Attack Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday by the conference office.
In Friday’s win at East Carolina, Fornia recorded two goals and one assist. Two days later, she exploded for three goals and a program-record nine assists in Sunday’s victory over ECU.
The nine assists are the most in a game in Vanderbilt and AAC history. They are the most by an NCAA Division I student-athlete this season, and two shy of the all-time D-1 single-game assists record of 11.
Fornia also posted a hat trick in addition to her nine assists for 12 points, tying the school’s single-game points record and breaking the AAC record. The 12 points are tied with Northwestern’s Izzy Scane for the most in a D-1 game this season.
This is the second AAC Attack Player of the Week honor for Fornia this season. She also took home the award on March 8.
Fornia and the Commodores are back in action to host Old Dominion at 1 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium.
