NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt senior student-athlete Sarah Fuller was named this week’s nominee for the Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Wednesday.

Fuller, who is majoring in medicine, health and society, cemented her name in history last Saturday, becoming the first woman to officially take the field during a football game in a Power 5 Conference game. She served as the Commodores’ primary kicker during the team’s contest at Missouri.

Fuller took the opening kickoff of the second half against the Tigers, as her perfectly-executed kick traveled 30 yards and was downed at the Missouri 35-yard line.

The Wylie, Texas, native joined the likes of New Mexico’s Katie Hnida and Kent State’s April Goss as the only females to appear in a Football Bowl Subdivision contest.

The honor marks Fuller’s second recognition of the week, as she was selected as the Southeastern Conference Co-Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

The Commodores travel to Athens, Georgia this weekend to face No. 11 Georgia. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT, airing live on SEC Network.
