Commodore Notes

No. 5 Vanderbilt swept No. 25 Auburn by hitting .402 at the plate and smashing 14 extra-base hits. The Commodores have won six straight SEC games for the first time since April 26-May 4, 2014. Vanderbilt starter Patrick Raby matched the program record with his 29th career victory and the No. 5 Commodores scored five runs in the first three innings, capping a three-game sweep of No. 25 Auburn with a 9-5 win on Saturday. JJ Bleday tied the national lead for home runs, belting his 21st of the season to provide the Commodores a 2-1 advantage.

Austin Martin reached base four times and matched a career high with three RBIs as Vanderbilt powered through steady rain to defeat Auburn, 12-6, in the series opener on Thursday night. The Commodores scored 10-plus runs for the 17th time and moved to 17-0 in night games and 11-0 in series openers. Vanderbilt used a strong start from Kumar Rocker and wiggled its way out of bases-loaded jams in each of the final two innings, clinching the series against the No. 25 Tigers with a 5-2 win on Friday.

Stephen Scott (1-for-2) connected on his second home run of the series, pushing Vanderbilt’s advantage to 4-0 with a three-run home run in the first. Rocker, who has fanned six-plus hitters in five of his last six starts, struck out a career-high 10 batters across seven innings. Vanderbilt closes its four-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting Tennessee Tech. The Commodores will visit South Carolina for a three-game series beginning Friday.
