Dayo Odeyingbo garners SEC honors

Day Odeyingbo SECDay Odeyingbo SEC

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt sophomore Dayo Obeyingbo has been named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week following the Commodores’ 36-29 overtime victory against Ole Miss, the league office announced Monday.

Odeyingbo had a sensational game on the Vanderbilt defensive front, contributing four solo tackles and two quarterback sacks while lifting the program to a bounce-back victory.

The Irving, Texas, native, who starts on the Commodore defensive line opposite older brother Dare Odeyingbo, also contributed two quarterback hurries and knocked down a Jordan Ta’amu pass attempt to spark the Vanderbilt win. On the Rebels’ final drive of overtime, the defensive lineman added a hurry to force an incompletion.

Obeyingbo’s first quarterback sack forced Ole Miss into a punting situation on its last possession of the first half. Odeyingbo’s second sack came inside the VU 10-yard line and forced Ole Miss, trailing by six points at the time, into a field goal attempt.

The sophomore joins senior Justin Skule, who was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week on Oct. 29 after his blocking performance against Arkansas, among Commodores recognized by the league for their efforts this season.

Vanderbilt closes its regular season and looks to reach bowl eligibility against Tennessee with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday. The program will honor its academic seniors prior to kickoff at Vanderbilt Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets by clicking here.
