The college basketball season gets its unofficial start on Wednesday when the Southeastern Conference hosts its annual Tipoff at the Grand Bohemian Resort in Birmingham. The Commodores are slated to go from 11:30 a.m.-1:25 p.m., with true freshmen Darius Garland and Simisola Shittu joining third-year head coach Bryce Drew as representatives of the 2018-19 team.
Vanderbilt enters this year’s SEC Tipoff as the only team with a freshman attending the event. The Commodores also will become the first team in media day history represented by two freshmen in the same year. Garland and Shittu join Michael Porter, Jr. of Missouri, Ben Simmons of LSU and Malik Newman of Mississippi State as true freshmen attendees to the event.
