NASHVILLE – With summer ball coming to a close, a pair of Vanderbilt players received high praise for their efforts on the diamond.

Relief pitcher Justin Willis was named to the 2018 All-New England Collegiate Baseball League Second Team on Tuesday. On Thursday, outfielder JJ Bleday was recognized as part of the 2018 Cape Cod Baseball League Year-End All-League Team.

Willis, who suited up for the Keene Swamp Bats, made 13 appearances, limiting opponents to 13 hits across 22.1 innings. The right-hander’s 1.61 ERA was the lowest among pitchers with at least five innings. He added a team-high three saves alongside 39 strikeouts.

Bleday’s outstanding spring carried over into the summer as the Panama City, Fla., native was named the Cape’s top pro prospect by Major League Baseball scouts in early August. Bleday (Orleans Firebirds) batted .311 across 36 games – ranking 10thin the CCBL – and finished third in the league in runs (29), fourth in triples (2) and sixth in hits (46).
