DALLAS—Four of Vanderbilt’s seven bowlers are among the top 17 individuals after the first day of competition at the 2018 Junior Gold Championship Monday.

Rising sophomore Samantha Gainor led the way for Commodore-connected participants, crafting games of 191-247-223-248 for a 221.75 average (or +87 over a 200 average). The Michigan product’s total placed her sixth in the gigantic field of 855.

Not far behind Gainor is incoming freshman Brogan Zengel of Centerville, Ohio, who continued her personal history of bowling well at this event by posting a +50 effort, good for 14th place heading into Tuesday’s play.

Right on her heels is Vandy’s Bryanna Leyen, who at +49 is 16th, and Adel Wahner, in 17th position at +44. Kelsey Abrahamsen‘s three steady games were betrayed by a 161 game that pushed her down to 141st place while Lauren Potechin and newcomer Angelique Dalesandro were unable to find their best groove. With three more days of qualifying, a bad game or even a rough day is not considered fatal.

New Jersey prep Kamerin Peters was spectacular in leading the field, averaging 250.25 over the four games. Complete results are found here: http://scores.bowl.com/2018-JG/Qualifying_After_4_U20Girls.pdf
