WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Having taken his NCAA singles quarterfinal match early Thursday morning, Cameron Klinger of the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team has added 2018 singles All-American to his growing list of accomplishments.

Klinger was named one of the youngest student-athletes to earn an All-American title in 2016, earning doubles All-American status with Rhys Johnson as a freshman. With a dominant 6-2, 6-3 victory over Virginia Tech’s 29th-ranked Mitch Harper around 8:00 a.m. CT, the Commodore is on to the NCAA singles tournament round of 16.

No. 26 Klinger will face North Carolina’s second-seeded/No. 3 William Blumberg tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT. Blumburg advanced to the Sweet 16 on a challenging three setter against Tennessee Tech’s Edu Mena 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3.

Following singles play, Klinger was joined on court by Billy Rowe as the tandem made their NCAA doubles debut as a tandem. The match was Rowe’s first NCAA individual match and Klinger’s second-career NCAA doubles competition.

Klinger and Rowe put up an incredible fight, but fell in the round of 32 against UCLA’s 16th-ranked Austin Rapp and Keegan Smith, 6-3, 6-3. With the loss, the Commodore pair ends the year with a 15-7 record and ranked in the ITA top 25.
