The Vanderbilt soccer team, coaching staff and key staffers have embarked on an 11-day adventure to Japan that will include two competitions, frequent educational opportunities and several visits to historic sites and attractions in the country. Over the next ten days, VUCommodores.com will provide a daily blog of content, including student-athlete blogs, videos, photo galleries and social media highlights.

We spent the majority of the day, so honestly my favorite part of today was dinner! We went to the Hoho Restaurant and made our own Japanese pancakes, known as okonomiyaki. These pancakes aren’t the ones from home I am accustomed to.

Our table of four chose to make chicken, shrimp and clam pancakes. The servers brought all the ingredients out and it was really cool to cook them right on our table.

This is my first time traveling internationally and it’s really exciting because I’ve always wanted to travel but have never been able to do so. It’s also been really special to travel with my soccer team.

I feel like I’ve always enjoyed learning about different cultures and countries, so that’s another reason why I’m so excited about this trip.

It was raining today, but I’ve been surprised how clean everything is, even though there are hardly any trash cans to be found. That’s been pretty interesting. I’ve also been surprised that it’s a lot less crowded than what I expected it to be.

Tomorrow, I’m really looking forward to going to the temple. More on that later, but everybody says it’s really pretty and a great place to visit.
