Vanderbilt suffered through a 0-4 week, capped by the first three-game sweep at the hands of Auburn since 2002 … Louisville capitalized on early walks and pushed across five runs in the first two innings to defeat No. 23 Vanderbilt, 8-4 to capture its third-straight Battle of the Barrel on Tuesday night at Hawkins Field … The Cardinals scored four times in the second while chasing Vanderbilt starter Jake Eder from the game … Vandy trimmed the deficit to four in the fifth inning on a two-out double by Ethan Paul to plate Alonzo Jones who reached on a fielder’s choice … The Commodores left a pair in scoring position, however, as Louisville starter Reid Detmers induced a fly out to right … Vanderbilt was unable to solve Auburn ace Casey Mize while the Tigers countered with a pair of homers to defeat the Commodores, 4-1 in Friday night’s series opener at Plainsman Park … Vandy starter Drake Fellows retired 11 straight batters after allowing a two-out homer in the opening frame … In the fifth, however, the Tigers put two aboard and Conor Davis connected on a three-run home run, pushing Auburn’s advantage to 4-0 … Mize turned in another dominant performance, stranding a single in the first and third before Philip Clarke unloaded on a first-pitch leadoff homer in the seventh inning … The freshman’s third-career long ball trimmed the deficit to three … Auburn launched a pair of home runs in the second inning including a two-out grand slam from Edouard Julien and held off a late rally Vanderbilt for an 11-5 series-clinching victory on Saturday afternoon at Plainsman Park … The Commodores erased a two-run deficit on three-straight hits to begin the second inning including a leadoff solo home run from Ty Duvall and an RBI-single from Stephen Scott to score Ethan Paul (double), knotting things at two-all … The Tigers answered immediately, however, in the home half as Brendan Venter belted his first home run of the season to left center … Auburn sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring seven times to vault past No. 23 Vanderbilt, 14-0 and complete the three-game series sweep on Sunday afternoon … The Commodores walked four Tigers hitters and balked home another in the fifth … Vandy mustered just two hits while dropping its eighth game in the last 10 outings … Vanderbilt returns to action on Tuesday, hosting nationally-ranked Tennessee Tech at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network Plus … The Dores hit the road to open a three-game set on Friday at Tennessee with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus … Saturday’s 5:00 p.m. CT middle game is slated for 5 p.m. on SEC Network Plus while the 11 a.m. CT finale will be televised on the SEC Network.
