The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team continues to make school history, earning the No. 1 overall seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Tuesday for the first time in program history.
Making their 24th tournament appearance, the top-ranked Commodores will host Ohio State (2), Clemson (3), and Alabama State (4) in the first and second rounds. This is the fifth-consecutive season that the Commodores will host first and second rounds, and the third straight year that Clemson makes its way to West End.
VU will first take on Alabama State at 2 p.m. CT on May 11. The Nashville Regional Championship will be held Saturday, May 12 at noon, with the winner advancing to the Round of 16 in Winston-Salem, N.C. from May 17-22.
Vandy enters NCAA tournament play following a fruitful SEC slate, taking the SEC regular season and tournament championships. The Dores own four consecutive SEC championships.
Last season in NCAA play, the black and gold knocked off SIUE, Clemson, California and Pepperdine before falling, 4-2, to the Florida Gators in semifinal action. The Gators went on to claim the 2017 NCAA crown.
The remainder of the Commodores’ pod is comprised of 16th-seeded Miami, UCF, FIU and LIU Brooklyn. The winners of the two regionals square off on May 17.
