Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt scored 24 runs in three games but dropped its series to South Carolina over the weekend … Vandy produced seven runs in the first three innings only to see South Carolina go into overdrive, sparking an 8-7 comeback victory behind six runs in the sixth inning on Friday night at Hawkins Field … The No. 17 Commodores maintained a five-run advantage before the Gamecocks sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth including pushing three across with two outs … Vanderbilt pounded six runs across in the second inning and never looked back, defeating South Carolina, 8-1 to even the three-game series on Saturday afternoon … The Dores batted around in the second as the first six batters reached to spark Vandy’s highest single-inning output since March 17 at Mississippi State … Vandy struck for six hits in the frame including two-run singles from Julian Infante and Philip Clarke … Three innings later, Alonzo Jones added insurance, lining a two-out, two-run home run into the right field bleachers for an 8-1 lead … The support was more than enough for starter Patrick Raby, who allowed a solo homer in the first before stranding South Carolina runners on base in the next four innings … The Black and Gold saw multi-run leads slip away twice as South Carolina upended the Commodores, 10-9 to clinch the series on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,158 fans … The Gamecocks erased deficits of four and three runs before using a one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to put Vandy away and hand the Dores their first home series loss of the season … The Commodores close their four-game homestand on Tuesday, welcoming Louisville for the annual Battle of the Barrel with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. on the SEC Network … The squad hits road this weekend, opening a three-game series at Auburn on Friday at 6 p.m. … Saturday’s middle game is slated for 2 p.m. while the finale will get underway at 1 p.m. … All three games will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
