The Vanderbilt women’s track and field team will travel in different directions to compete in two invitationals this weekend.

While most of the Commodores’ distance corps will participate in the Duke Invitational Friday and Saturday in Durham, N.C., Vanderbilt athletes in field events and sprints are entered in the War Eagle Invitational, a two-day meet starting Friday on the Auburn University campus.

Vanderbilt head coach Steve Keith wants to see his squad continue to build momentum off their performance last week at the Tennessee Relays when pole vaulter Kristen Denk and the distance medley foursome of Kendall Derry, Jenn Edobi, Ginger Hutton and Reagan Bustamante paced a strong team effort by establishing new school records.

“I want to see our squad build off our recent successes and continue to put in good work as we gear up for the heart of our outdoor schedule,” Keith said. “The Duke Invitational will be a great opportunity for our distance runners to post NCAA qualifying marks and personal bests. At Auburn, we’ll see a very high level of competition. I’m excited to see how we compete at both meets because we’re coming into both meets off a strong week of practice.”

Fifteen Commodore distance runners will compete on the Duke campus. The distance corps includes Bustamante and Hutton in the 800 meters, Derry in the 1,500 meters, Megan Huebner in the 5,000 meters and Kacie Breeding in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Denk, fellow vaulters Caleigh Lofstead and Margaret Ollinger, sprinter/jumper Sophia Falco, Edobi, sprinter Regan Clay and 800-meter specialist Courtney Clayton are among the Commodore contingent competing in Auburn.
