Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt struggled, going 0-4 last week including undertaking the program’s first regular-season sweep since 2012 … The Commodores hit just .138 as a team while scoring nine total runs … Vanderbilt dropped its fourth-consecutive midweek game on Tuesday night, recording just one hit in a 5-1 loss to Lipscomb at First Tennessee Park … The Bisons took the lead with four runs in the fifth inning, chasing starter Jake Eder after two softly-hit singles started the frame … Stephen Scott‘s line drive single to right in the sixth was Vanderbilt’s first and only hit of the night … Florida struck for five runs in the seventh to break open a one-run game and take the series opener, 8-4 against Vanderbilt on Friday night at McKethan Stadium … The Gators batted around in the seventh, tagging three Commodore pitchers for three hits including a two-run home run from Jonathan India and run-scoring hits from Deacon Liput and Nelson Maldonado … Florida scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, breaking through after Vanderbilt starter Drake Fellows allowed just one hit the first time through the order … Florida delivered a decisive blow in the seventh inning, scoring seven times with two outs to run away with a series-clinching 10-2 victory against Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon … The Gators batted around for the second time in as many days during the seventh inning, clubbing six hits with two down highlighted by a three-run home run from Keenan Bell … The eighth-ranked Commodores did not help their cause offensively, beginning the game 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position before getting on the scoreboard courtesy of an Alonzo Jones run-scoring single with one down in the seventh … For a third-straight day, Florida bats struck early and often, leading the Gators to an 8-2 victory and the sweep against Vanderbilt on Sunday … The Dores, who went a combined 5-for-29 (.172) with runners on base in the first two games, continued the trend on Sunday … Vandy went 2-for-11 (.182) in the category in the finale including 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position … The Commodores return to action Tuesday, visiting Middle Tennessee for a 6:00 p.m. tilt … Vandy is back home beginning Thursday night, welcoming Georgia to Hawkins Field for three games … the opener is set for 6:00 p.m. while Friday’s middle game will start at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday’s finale is slated for 2:00 p.m.
