George Harwell was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week for men’s tennis as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.
Harwell Statements:
- Harwell remains undefeated on the season and is VU’s lone undefeated player
- Harwell owns a 9-0 singles record, playing at No. 6 singles
- All of Harwell’s wins have come in straight-set victories, including his 6-2, 6-2 win over Northwestern’s AJ Joshi and a 7-5, 7-5 win over Indiana’s Brandon Lam
- Last weekend the freshman helped clinch the doubles point over Northwestern alongside Danny Valent
- The Nashville native earned the first singles victories against Northwestern and Indiana
Harwell and the rest of the Commodore contingent hits the road to open Southeastern Conference play, traveling south to Tuscaloosa. Ala. to compete against the Crimson Tide. VU will head home on Sunday to face the Tulane Green Wave at 9 a.m. CT.
