Team Notes:
Vanderbilt defeated TCU, 81-78 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym in the Commodores first non-conference tilt since Dec. 22. The victory was the second in the last three games for the Dores and improved Vandy to 8-13 on the season.

Vanderbilt committed just 11 fouls and kept TCU off the charity stripe. For the first time since 2009 against Georgia, a Commodores opponent did not attempt a free throw.

The victory pushed Vanderbilt to 5-1 all-time against TCU and 79-55 against the Big 12 Conference. The meeting was the first since December 18, 2004, when the Dores knocked off the Horned Frogs, 78-55 at Memorial Gym.

Vandy held on for the victory despite five TCU players scoring in double figures. The Dores did not provide the Horned Frogs additional help, turning over the ball just seven times while creating 21 points off 12 TCU turnovers.

The Commodores led for 34:39 of the contest. Despite six lead changes, TCU’s last lead came with 19:11 to play in the second half. The Horned Frogs knotted the game at 76-all with 2:19 remaining but Vandy scored five of the next seven points.

The Vandy victory helped the cause for the Southeastern Conference as part of the fifth annual Big 12/SEC Challenge which features five games on SEC campuses and five on Big 12 campuses. The two conference’s split last year’s event with each winning five.
