NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 2-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team competes in its final individual tournament this weekend at the Miami Spring Invitational, just before kicking off the dual season on Jan. 26.

Hosted by the Miami Hurricanes, the tournament pits the Commodores against ranked schools from three different conferences in Kentucky (No. 21), Miami (19) and Ohio State (12). The Commodores and Buckeyes both reached the Final Four one year ago.

Vanderbilt will be without redshirt senior and reigning SEC Player of the Year Astra Sharma this weekend, as the Commodore is fresh off her Grand Slam debut on Tuesday in the Australian Open.

Commodore Notables:

  • Commodores enter the weekend ranked No. 2 in the nation
  • Vandy has three student-athletes who appear in the ITA’s latest singles rankings
  • Fernanda Contreras is the tournament’s highest-ranked singles player at No. 4 in the nation
  • No. 19 Christina Rosca and No. 96 Summer Dvorak follow in rankings
  • Emma Kurtz pairs with Rosca at No. 19 in the doubles rankings and with Emily Smith at No. 43 in doubles.

Up next:
Following the weekend’s play, Vandy will officially open the spring dual season by hosting Florida State, Virginia and Nebraska in the ITA Kickoff Weekend (Jan. 26-27).
