Dores in 7th at Tavistock after round one

First Round Results

WINDERMERE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team carded a first-round team score of 291 at the Tavistock Collegiate, one of the nation’s premiere collegiate tournaments, and are in a tie for seventh on the team leader board at the Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Senior Theo Humphrey led the way for the Commodores with a first-round one-under par 71, which puts him in a tie for 11th individually.

The Commodores trail first-place Illinois by 12 shots after the first round of the tournament, which features 10 teams ranked in the top 30 nationally, but are only five shots back of third-place Texas Tech heading into the second round on Monday.

For the day, Vanderbilt counted Humphrey’s 71, a pair of 73’s from junior Patrick Martin and freshman Luke Zieman, and a 74 from sophomore John Augenstein.

“Today felt like one of those rounds where we kind of left a pretty good round out there,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We did some good things and competed well, but did some things that really kept us from ever having a ton of momentum. Theo played solid and Luke did a nice job when our team needed it today.”

Individually, the Illini’s Dylan Meyer and Florida’s John Axelsen each carded a five-under par 67 to lead the individual leader board after day one.

“Tomorrow is important because it’s our next opportunity to take another step,” said Limbaugh. “We need to do a better job of being tough enough to stay focused on doing the simple things better. The guys will be excited and we will need all of them competing and playing Vanderbilt golf.”
