GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team garnered one doubles championship and will send two student-athletes to Sunday’s singles finals at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.

In doubles action, the duo of No. 17 Fernanda Contreras and Emily Smith defeated Tennessee’s Sadie Hammond and Tenika McGiffin; 8-4. The Commodore juniors boast a 5-0 record throughout two tournaments.

In another inner-conference competition, Amanda Meyer and Summer Dvorak downed Ole Miss’ Allie Sanford and Brooke Stevens, 8-2, for third place in the flight three draw.

In the singles draw, freshman Lauren Gish will be competing Sunday at 8 a.m. CT against Tennessee’s McGriffin in the flight eight final. The Mooresville, N.C. native defeated The Rebel’s Cameron Kriscunas in hard-fought straight set competition, 6-1, 7-6.

Junior Summer Dvorak will also be competing in a flight final of her own, as the Laguna Beach, Calif. native defeated Mississippi State’s Sara Lizariturry, 7-6(1), 6-1. Dvorak will face Furman’s Sanni Vines in Sunday morning’s final.

No. 47 Christina Rosca suffered her first loss of the season, as the sophomore fell in flight one semifinals to UNC’s No. 65 Makenna Jones on three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Rosca will take on Wake Forest’s Emma Davis for third place.

Tomorrow’s final day of tournament action will begin at 8 a.m. CT.
