Rising senior Alexandra Farnsworth captured the 23rd Illinois State Women’s Open last week by two shots with a final total of eight-under, 208, at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, Ill. Farnsworth defeated Northwestern collegiate player Hana Kim by two shots to claim the victory.

“I had a lot of seconds and thirds in college play, so this breakthrough means a lot to me,” Farnsworth told The Daily Herald in Illinois. “The last half of (her last college) year, I put a lot of added pressure on myself about turning pro. I thought I had to shoot certain scores to prove myself, and that made the game miserable. I took two weeks off and am fully back to enjoying golf again.”

Farnsworth rallied from a two-shot deficit heading into the final round, but her final-round 67 pushed the senior from Nashville to medalist honors by two shots over Northwestern’s Kim.

After playing in the Tennessee Women’s Open in August, Farnsworth will return to campus to begin her senior season with the Commodores.
