NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The list of accolades continues to grow for Ralph Webb, Vanderbilt’s all-time leading rusher.
Webb, from Gainesville, Fla., was listed today on the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation’s top running back.
Webb, who was named as a preseason All-Southeastern Conference running back last week following SEC Media Days, also has been included as a candidate for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the nation’s top player.
Webb, a three-year starter, is coming off his finest season. In 2016, he broke the Vanderbilt single-season rushing record with 1,283 yards, highlighted by a 211-yard effort against Middle Tennessee and a three-touchdown performance against Ole Miss.
Webb enters his final season at Vanderbilt with 3,342 yards rushing and is the holder of eight other career school records. He has established the best marks in VU history for each class in his first three years, owning the top rushing seasons for freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
Webb also is nine touchdowns shy of breaking Zac Stacy’s career record of 30 rushing touchdowns, one of the few team career marks he does not own.

Webb enters the season 20th on the Southeastern Conference’s all-time rushing list as the second-leading active rusher behind only Georgia’s Nick Chubb. Just seven running backs have eclipsed 4,000 yards in the league history, with Georgia’s Herschel Walker holding the SEC record with 5,259 yards.
