The Rundown
Vanderbilt is heading down south to Baton Rouge, La. this weekend for the inaugural SEC Relays. With nine of the conference’s 14 members competing, the meet will provide as a good tune-up for the SEC Track and Field Championships two weekends from now. The field contains three of the top-five teams nationally and five of the top 10. No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 LSU, No. 8 Kentucky and No. 10 Alabama will be included in the loaded lineup this weekend. No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 23 Tennessee and Mississippi State are the other teams featured in the field. Team scoring will be utilized during the meet, using results from seven relays, including the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 4×800, sprint medley, distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays. Each school’s top mark in jumping and throwing events will be factored into the scoring as well.
The Lineup
Vanderbilt is coming off a strong showing last weekend, when seniors Sarah Bell and Courtney Clayton set school records in the pole vault and 800-meter run, respectively. Bell, Clayton and senior Sarah Goodale (heptathlon) all rank among the top 10 in the SEC in their respective events with senior Carmen Carlos (5000-meters) and junior Jenn Edobi (400-meters) both ranking 11th overall in the conference. About Bernie Moore Track Stadium
The was resurfaced in 2011 with Mondo FTX, which is the same surface used in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In addition to the 400-meter oval, the infield also features a sprints and hurdles straightaway, each with nine lanes with 48 inches in width. The stadium gets its namesake from longtime LSU track head coach Bernie Moore. Check out a 360-degree view of the facility HERE.
