BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt redshirt-senior Georgina Sellyn was named to the Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Community Service Team, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
A leader on the court, in the classroom and in the community, the 2016 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year adds the service award to her many accomplishments achieved throughout her time at Vandy.
Through her service works, the Glasgow, Scotland native has married her love for people as well as her future in the medical field, volunteering with The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt visiting patients and spending time with them in pre-op before their surgeries. Sellyn has also volunteered at Shade Tree, a free clinic run by Vanderbilt medical students for those who cannot afford visits to a doctor.
Alongside her fellow Commodores, she has volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank Middle Tennessee, supported Vanderbilt Athletics’ food/flood drives and was part of Vanderbilt’s Soles4Souls service trip delegation, which sent 10 student-athletes to distribute shoes throughout Cuba in July.
Sellyn and Sydney Campbell will compete in their final regular season home matches this weekend, taking on South Carolina on Friday at 3 p.m. and Florida Sunday at 11 a.m.
