NEW YORK, N.Y. – Vanderbilt attacker Kayla Peterson was named the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performances against No. 17 Johns Hopkins and Butler, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. This is Peterson’s second BIG EAST honor this season after claiming an Honor Roll spot back on Feb. 28.
The Hagerstown, Md. native started the week off winning three draw controls and picked up a ground ball on the road against No. 17 Johns Hopkins.
Then on Saturday, Peterson was a key part of the Commodore attack that scored the most goals in over two years. Peterson set a career high against the Bulldogs with seven goals on seven shots while winning two draw controls. The seven goals were the most in a BIG EAST game this season and tied for the most by a BIG EAST player this year. It was the third game this season Peterson has led the Dores in goals and she eclipsed her previous career high that she set back on Feb. 26 when she scored six goals against Furman.
Peterson currently leads the Commodores in goals this season with 24 and is second in points (26) and draw controls (19). She is third overall in the BIG EAST in goals per game (3.0) behind Florida’s Mollie Stevens and Shayna Pirreca.
The Dores will be back on the field this Saturday to continue conference play. They will travel south to face No. 3 Florida at 11 am CT.
