NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores are on the road once again for their final game of a six-game road trip this Wednesday when they take on No. 17 Johns Hopkins at 12 pm CT.

This will be the Commodores third ranked opponent this season and head coach Cathy Swezey believes they have learned a lot by playing tough competition early in the season.

“We have to continue to test our talent and to see what we are capable of,” said Swezey. “You are always hoping to catch them a little tired or on an off day. We know we need to pull an upset this season and every time we play a ranked team, we have our eyes on it.”

Last time out, the Commodores were in Philadelphia to kick off conference play against Villanova.

The Wildcats raced out to a 6-1 lead but the `Dores kept their composure and began to fight back into the game. They would score the next three goals to bring the halftime deficit down to two at 6-4.

The Wildcats would come out firing in the second half, scoring the first three goals to bring their lead back up to five.

Once again, the `Dores would have an answer. They went on a quick 5-0 run to tie the game at 9 with just over 20 minutes left in the game.

Villanova answered with a 3-0 run of its own to reclaim the lead at 12-9 with 15:21 remaining in the game.

The Commodores would have the final run of the game as they went on another 5-0 run over the last 15 minutes of play. Two quick goals by Julie Blaze brought the lead down to one and Avery Hoelting would score the equalizer with 9:49 left.

Exactly three minutes latter, MacKenzie Lange scored off the assist from Emily Mathewson to give the `Dores their first lead of the game. Blaze would net her fourth goal of the game with 5:22 remaining to seal the 14-12 win for the Commodores.

No. 17 Johns Hopkins enters Wednesday’s tilt 7-2 on the season and 0-1 in the Big 10. They are coming off a 17-4 loss against No. 1 Maryland this past Sunday. The Commodores lead the all-time series with the Blue Jays 10-8 as the two teams routinely met as American Lacrosse Conference foes. The Blue Jays won last year’s matchup on West End 12-11.

Senior Haley Schweizer leads the Blue Jays with 16 goals on the season while sophomore Miranda Ibello leads the team in points with 27. Schweizer also leads the Blue Jays in draw controls with 24 and is second on the team in caused turnovers with 11. In the cage, Caroline Federico has started all nine for the Jays and has made 68 saves on the season.
