NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 27th-ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team hits the road this weekend, continuing Southeastern Conference action against Texas A&M at 6 pm on Friday and LSU Sunday at 11:30 am.
The ‘Dores are coming off a 1-1 weekend, falling 6-1 to Georgia while defeating in-state rival Tennessee, 4-3. With the victory, the Commodores improved to 9-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Cameron Klinger was Vandy’s nomination for SEC Player of the Week. The sophomore went undefeated in singles and doubles last weekend, picking up back-to-back ranked singles wins and a ranked doubles win alongside Pen Binet. Freshman Billy Rowe came through with the clinch over the Vols.
Scouting the Aggies:
The Aggies own a 7-3 overall record and began SEC play going undefeated on the weekend. In the squad’s conference opener, A&M downed No. 13 Florida in Gainesville, 4-3, and defeated South Carolina in Columbia, 5-2.
The Commodores look to face two ranked Texas A&M student-athletes with Arthur Rinderknech leading his team as the second-highest ranked SEC athlete at No. 8. Jordi Arconada follows the junior in at No. 115. In tandems, Runderknech and Max Lunkin represent TAMU in the Oracle/ITA top 25 at No. 22 in the nation.
In their last meeting, the ‘Dores downed then-No. 7 A&M at home by a score of 4-3. Then a freshman, Klinger clinched the Commodores’ first top 10 victory since 2013 in three hard-fought sets over Arconada, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6(6).
Scouting the Tigers:
LSU owns a 2-8 record and is off to a 0-2 start in conference play. Last weekend, the Tigers fell to SC and UF on the road by a score of 4-3. LSU’s two victories came over South Florida and Lamar.
The Tigers have two ranked singles players in the top 50 with Justin Butsh at No. 43 and Jordan Daigle following at 47th.
Last time out, the Tigers defeated Vanderbilt in Nashville, 5-2.
